The Job

tbs/TNT is seeking a SVP, Programming and Scheduling who will be responsible for leadership and strategic direction of the multi-platform program schedules for 2 top 10 cable networks along with the high level decision making needed for the schedules; these decisions directly influence the TBS and TNT channels, original series' successes, network branding, monetization and total ratings goals. Position frequently engages with President of TBS and TNT, Executive Vice Presidents and all essential distribution and sports divisional teams. Works autonomously yet collaborates with groups at Turner - inside and outside the 2 networks - to arrive at an informed decision to drive TBS and TNT success.

Linear- Responsible for creating and leading strategies and schedules for both networks, inclusive of all original series, specials, licensed series, live events and movies.

  • Manages vibrant and ever changing sports schedules/scenarios, determining all contingency plans for all shoulder programming or replacement programming.

  • Envision growth opportunities in our schedule and direct ideas to strengthen our offerings.

  • Guide scheduling team in LRP Budget and Upfront original license program planning; providing specific planned guidance across 17,520 hours of programming per year with 4-5 year outlooks.

  • Empower scheduling team to curate schedules for greater consumer value and best use of assets

  • Target and influence new acquisitions for the highest-delivering and cost-effective Programming for the networks far into the foreseeable future.

Provide guidance to Acquisitions and Finance on priorities and analysis for all new acquired movies and series.

  • Review ongoing competitive research with team and make informed decisions to pivot if needed to stay ahead of the competition.

  • Supervise and track all performances across all types of content and assets, and continually guiding the evolution of our networks, their ratings, and trends; make timely and weighty decisions for ratings or evolving metrics that heavily effect revenue for networks.

  • Collaborate yet shape network and asset priorities when interacting across all networks, making sure to avoid any scheduling conflicts while achieving network goals.

Digital- Identify and leverage unique strengths for each multi-platform application (web, VOD, appleTV, facebook page).

  • Energize program offerings for robust, relevant series and movies, growing transactions -- now rivaling and leading other cable competitors.

  • Advise and collaborate with Acquisitions and Legal, continuously updating our digital rights

  • Capitalize on trends and data to provide unique and advantaged views via digital sites (versus linear); team managed to expand breadth and scope of movie offerings and package digital-only curated stunts for continued market leading experiences

  • Engage with many point people in Sales to best aid Sales in increasing monetization via growing transactions.- Analyze and provide pre-linear premiere recommendations based on Research and Marketing ideas and data from previous tactics.

Program Planning- Manage and challenge assumptions and continually assess programming needs based on the dynamic and changing television landscape.

  • Review and evolve current modeling methods and, if needed, oversee improvements to the acquisitions process

  • Oversight and management of amortization of our series and movies, to efficiently program and profit from our content

  • Leverage team strengths to find future growth opportunities and assess risks based on Research and Sales estimates.

Original Series Development

  • first point of contact with development team. Provide strongest resources and high level thinking to launch brand defining originals; Recommend and amend original series schedule based on production issues and information; heavy leadership and dialogue with all departmental EVPs to gain development insights into the creative of each series affecting the schedule and network visibility

Collaborate with sports, marketing, acquisitions, research, sales, Public Relations, content distribution, S&P and movie/television studio distributors on critical elements of this role. Cross-Network Communication - Activate and maintain healthy lines of dialogue with network contemporaries at Adult Swim, TruTV, TCM and Cartoon Network in regards to TNT and TBS programming priorities. Necessary leadership when deciding how to launch and share programming, whether tbs/TNT lead or sister network requested.

Qualifications:

15+ years of decision-making experience in television programming with an emphasis on scheduling

Leadership expertise in all disciplines of television (Research, Marketing, Acquisition, Promotion, etc)
