ASM Global Event Coordinator in Detroit, Michigan

Position Title: Event Coordinator

Location: Onsite

Salary: $23.08/Hour (Non-exempt)

Job Type: Full-time

Job Summary:

Coordinate, supervise and participate in the implementation of the event planning process. Interact with clients, facility staff, 3rd party contractors and vendors and all additional related personnel to assure set-up and smooth operations of events from initiation to completion. This position reports to the Event Services Director.

Key Job Elements:

  • Assist Event Managers as needed.

  • Required to work rotating shifts to accommodate business and client needs in the facility.

  • Establish contact with client upon assignment of an event.

  • Assist in implementation of facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain constant communication with clients, their associates or service suppliers.

  • Preparing event resumes and distribution to staff.

  • Sending client event related documents and follow up correspondence.

  • Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments on a timely basis as approved by the Event Services Director.

  • Ensure the highest level of customer service.

  • Advise and assist in the event planning process as necessary.

  • Working knowledge of standard operating procedures, policies and procedures and event terminology.

  • Provide liaison with 3rd party providers (i.e., Audio Visual, Telecommunications, etc.) and other departments for appropriate services.

  • Serve as the on-site Event Supervisor/Coordinator on duty before, during and after the assigned event.

  • Brief staff of upcoming events.

  • Participate in weekly event coordination meetings.

  • Assist Event Managers as needed.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience - A good knowledge of the principles of administration as they relate to provision of facilities, services, and equipment in a large convention/exhibition/entertainment center; a general knowledge of the services, vendors, union jurisdictions or other organization involved in producing major events; a minimum of two years college level course work in a sales or marketing related program preferred.

  • Education – bachelor’s degree and at least a minimum of two years actual experience in public facility management, promotion, or operation of conventions or trade shows or service-related operation whose primary function is to provide direct on-site service to the public.

  • Skills – Proficient in computer knowledge and usage including Microsoft Word, Excel etc. Must possess sound skills in planning, organizing and logistics, excellent interpersonal skills. Must have worked in a team atmosphere and work effectively with others. Ability to communicate effectively. Excellent time management and organizational skills required. Excellent customer service skills. This position requires the ability to interact with all types of people. Must be able to get along with co-workers, customers, vendors, and visitors to the facility.

  • Communication Skills – Well developed oral, written, and listening skills. Good analytical skills, including ability to lead, facilitate, plan, document and organize.

  • Physical Requirements - Ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time working rotating shifts and walking long distances in the building as needed.
