Nexstar Media Group Digital Content Producer in East Providence, Rhode Island

Are you a digital journalist? Do you have strong writing, editing and newsgathering skills? Are you proficient with the latest social media tools? The Digital Content Producer will be responsible for developing, writing and distributing local news stories as part of the 12 News/WPRI.com digital team.

The Digital Content Producer will be expected to deliver informative, accurate and in-depth local news content on a daily basis and work alongside other journalists in a fast-paced newsroom.

  • Report local news to our audience through written stories, video and other forms of media

  • Take an active role in discovering, tracking down and confirming information

  • Contribute to the editorial process and make sound decisions during breaking news situations

  • Help our content desk make calls, take calls, and monitor police scanners and social media

  • Work to grow our audience and ensure our content is distributed effectively and creatively

  • Track which topics are of interest to our audience and deliver content accordingly

Specialized Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of grammar, AP style and SEO techniques

  • Strong news judgement, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations

  • Ability to meet deadlines and quality standards

  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, adapt and learn on the fly

  • Ability to work on your own, as well as collaboratively

  • Savvy in social media tools and best practices

  • Willingness to take on other responsibilities as needed, such as running teleprompter

  • Video and photo editing skills a plus

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, TV/film or equivalent experience may substitute 2+ years’ experience in digital publishing, television or radio broadcast/production.

Training/Equipment: Utilize state-of-the-art web and television technology, video and graphics.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: High-stress environment with deadline pressures. Flexible schedule and occasional overtime.
