The Associate General Counsel works directly under the supervision of the General Counsel to provide legal support and advice on Company strategies, help to meet legal objectives, and is involved in complex business transactions.

Position Overview

As one of three lawyers in the legal department (including the GC), the Associate General Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel. He or she will be an integral member of the ScribeAmerica legal team and will provide general legal advice to ScribeAmerica businesses, with a primary focus on (i) handling a wide range of employment law matters and (ii) drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial customer agreements. The Associate General Counsel will also assist other members of the Legal Department, as needed. As the Associate General Counsel learns the intricacies of the Company’s business, s/he will have the opportunity to expand the role into other areas of law and compliance.

The Associate General Counsel will handle ongoing responsibilities as well as project-based work within the Legal Department. This position is for a key contributor able to provide strategic and tactical advice to help business operations while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties and Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Company’s General Counsel and other Associate General Counsel, this role will serve as the primary counsel on all employment law matters and commercial contract matters at ScribeAmerica.

  • Negotiate and draft commercial agreements, including for example, the Company’s commercial contracts for new business and the expansion of existing business.

  • Handle day-to-day advice to the business on employment related issues such as over-time pay, meal and rest periods, payment of wages, leave laws, among other “blocking and tackling” employment issues.

  • Handle administrative employment law claims, including matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, state Fair Employment Practices Agencies and other state and federal agencies.

  • Provide litigation management and direction and oversight of outside counsel on employment litigation matters.

  • Work directly with the Human Resources organization and other business areas and senior management to mitigate legal risk and advance corporate initiatives.

  • Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with business partners; become a trusted advisor.

  • Proactively monitor industry trends and regulatory developments and provide guidance and counsel with respect thereto.

Required Education and Experience

  • JD degree from an accredited law school and currently licensed as an attorney.

  • Active or ability to become an active member of the Florida Bar as an in-house attorney.

  • 5 years of legal experience in employment law and litigation.

  • Experience in negotiating and drafting commercial contracts is a preferred but not required

  • Excellent academic record and experience at a respected law firm.

  • Experience handling a wide range of employment matters such as administrative law proceedings, employment litigation oversight, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, employment discrimination, code of conduct, termination, etc.

  • Experience or a willingness to learn how to draft and negotiate commercial agreements.

  • This is a remote position, so candidates should be comfortable working from a home office or other suitable work location.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full­ time, remote position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, as needed.

Travel is expected occasionally for this position, as needed for particular legal topics and transactions.

Compensation range: Our compensation range for this position is $150k-$155k, depending on qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
