Phillips 66 Senior Consultant, Accounting Policy in Houston, Texas

The Consultant, Accounting Policy provides consultation and guidance to business units on accounting policy issues. The role conducts technical accounting research and develops and enhances accounting policies. The position will Assist in the preparation of financial information for external disclosure. This position offers the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the business and to interface with Management and Finance leaders across many functions and business units.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Act as a point of contact for accounting policy issues including research and documentation of technical accounting matters

  • Review new U.S. GAAP accounting standards and assist business units in their implementation, as applicable

  • Support external reporting through review of SEC filings, including preparation of disclosures, as required

  • Review contracts and other proposals to determine the appropriate accounting and assess possible issues. This may include participation in specific project teams.

  • Develop and lead training on accounting policy topics

  • Other special projects, as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance

  • Hold a valid CPA certification

  • 10 or more years experience in financial, auditing or accounting

  • Ability to review complex processes and controls

  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accounting policy experience

  • Broad understanding of generally accepted accounting principles

  • Ability to lead a team or participate in a team in a collaborative manner

  • Ability to create, compute, analyze and interpret data

  • Ability to progress multiple tasks concurrently

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Excellent influence skills
