American Homes 4 Rent Senior Manager - Occupational Safety and Health in Las Vegas, Nevada

The Senior Manager, Safety and Facilities manages the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs that will assure well-managed, well-maintained buildings, facilities, environmental health / safety, and quality programs, in coordination and conjunction with the goals and objectives of the business. Maintains and updates the corporate Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (I2P2). Focuses on the execution of tactical and operational plans with short-term to mid-term impact that align with organizational goals and objectives. Creates and updates topic-specific safety trainings and plans that reflect changing field operations to reduce risk levels and maintain compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Oversees the facilities of the corporate office building and all other company office locations; by ensuring building systems are properly maintained, serviced, and current emergency plans are in place. Problems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis. Influences others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and periodically revises corporate health, safety, and environment policies and procedures to identify/mitigate hazardous conditions within the workplace. Reviews and adheres to both federal and state occupational safety and health standards to remain in compliance. Collaborates with the Training department to review/update safety training content and assignment of training based on job duties/positions. Evaluates and audits necessary actions (e.g., attend risk control workshops, participate in sponsored monthly webinars, etc.) to maintain current and in good standing with Affinity Captive Insurance program. Administers internal self-inspections in preparation for annual external audits.

  • Investigates accidents and determines if they are OSHA recordable. Interfaces with engineers, management, and health and safety regulatory authorities to identify causes of accidents and provides education / best practices to prevent recurrence to departmental staff / management. Conducts periodic reviews with Human Resources staff to ensure all incidents are accounted for prior to annual OSHA reporting and posting.

  • Oversees, plans, prioritizes, and/or directs the responsibilities of employees and vendor safety, including and not limit to corporate, administration, technical, field operations, construction, building, equipment, and erection operations. Takes ownership of strategy execution and ensures operation direction in alignment with the business’s objectives.

  • Verifies preventive maintenance targets are being realized and special projects are progressing according to schedule with the facility staff. Reviews and approves invoices for payment to external vendors.

  • Visits company offices nationwide to perform safety audits based off established cadence delivered by senior management. Identifies workplace hazards and hazardous conditions within home building, construction, and technician-based environments. Presents OSHA 10-hour General Industry Training (in-person) to targeted field employees who have supervisory responsibilities.

  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop job hazard analysis reports for employee tasks. Updates personal protective equipment requirements based on this collaboration. Responds to questions and safety concerns raised by employees.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Engineering and/or related preferred.

  • Minimum 8+ years experience in Occupational Safety and Health, Operations, Facilities Management, and/or related. Relevant knowledge and exposure of OSHA and EPA guidelines and regulations required.

  • Minimum 5 years experience managing a department with direct reports.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM) certifications, preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations, and policies.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • This position is considered light work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. This position sits most of the time.

  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer screen; extensive reading etc.

  • Requires occasional lifting and carrying.
