With offices in London, the U.S. and Asia Pacific, Talbot is the managing agent of Syndicate 1183 and Syndicate 2019 at Lloyd’s. Syndicate 1183 underwrites a number of classes of business including war and terrorism, energy, marine, financial lines, cyber, transport, political risk, crisis management, kidnap and ransom, contingency and property. Syndicate 2019 reinsures a portfolio of U.S. ultra-high net worth personal lines business. Through its expert team of underwriters and a balanced, geographically-diverse portfolio of business, Talbot has earned a reputation as an industry-leading insurance specialist.

How you will make an impact

  • Assist in the efficient running and management of the business, with particular focus on property binders, property D&F pricing and underwriter support.

  • Perform data updates, yearly renewal pricing and new business quoting to the property binder portfolio, ensuring the data in the portfolio is reviewed frequently and kept up to date.

  • Help with individual submission catastrophe modelling (predominately property) using third party catastrophe models

  • Help underwriters understand and use the cat model output appropriately.

  • Peer review pricing outputs produced by the team both in London and offshore

  • Liaise closely with the Research team to ensure that a consistent approach to cat modelling is taken across the group.

  • Help ensure the framework within which third-party catastrophe models are operated is robust.

  • Help advance the use of pricing models and to test, approve and communicate any new functionality, using technical skills to improve any systems or processes.

  • Generate internal management information including EP reports for the insurance and reinsurance classes to help with the internal monitoring of catastrophe exposures.

  • Help conduct the quarterly modelling process

  • Help generate model results and peripheral data for the Lloyd’s Cat Model (LCM) return.

  • Assist in developing a more robust view of the models and components through analysis of catastrophe modelling data and back testing.

  • Help implement model changes and assess the impact of any model changes on Talbot’s accounts.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Numerical degree

  • 2-3 years relevant Cat Modelling experience

  • Experience in RMS or AIR

  • Strong SQL and Excel skills

  • Strong communicator

  • Analytical with strong problem solving skills and excellent attention to detail
