Major/Essential Functions:

The Assistant Director of PR & Media is a pivotal role within our organization, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications. This individual will spearhead our public relations efforts, working to enhance the visibility, reputation, and positive image of the Rawls College of Business across various media channels. They will oversee the Social Media Coordinator, ensuring cohesive strategies across all PR and media initiatives, and manage multimedia and media buying functions. The Assistant Director will be responsible for developing and executing strategic PR campaigns, managing media relations, crafting compelling narratives, coordinating multimedia content, and assisting the Senior Director in positioning the college as a leading thought leader and implementing ranking strategies. They will leverage data and analytics to measure the impact of PR efforts and refine strategies for optimal results. Additionally, the Assistant Director will coordinate media for the college, fostering relationships with media outlets, stakeholders, and partners.

  • Develop and execute strategic PR campaigns to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Rawls College of Business.

  • Manage media relations, including pitching stories, coordinating interviews, and responding to media inquiries.

  • Craft compelling narratives and press releases to communicate key messages and achievements to the media and the public.

  • Oversee multimedia content creation, including videos, podcasts, and graphics, to complement PR efforts and engage target audiences. And provide video and photography support as needed.

  • Manage media buying activities, including negotiating contracts, optimizing placements, and tracking performance metrics.

  • Oversee the Social Media Coordinator to ensure cohesive PR and media strategies across all digital platforms. And provide support as a community manager.

  • Assist the Senior Director in positioning the college as a leading thought leader in the industry through targeted PR and media efforts.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify PR opportunities and support marketing and communications initiatives.

  • Support the Senior Director in implementing ranking strategies to enhance the college's reputation and visibility.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in PR, media buying, and multimedia content creation, incorporating new ideas and strategies into our approach.

  • Utilize data and analytics to measure the impact of PR efforts and adjust strategies as needed to optimize outcomes and be familiar with social listening tools.

  • Manage crisis communications and reputational issues, developing and implementing strategies to mitigate risk and protect the college's image.

  • Mentor and develop the Social Media Coordinator and social media student assistants by providing guidance and support to help them grow in their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for crafting compelling narratives, press releases, and pitches.

  • Strong media relations skills, including experience pitching stories, coordinating interviews, and responding to media inquiries.

  • Proficiency in managing PR campaigns, media buying activities, and multimedia content creation.

  • Ability to oversee social media strategies and act as a community manager, ensuring cohesive PR and media efforts across digital platforms.

  • Experience in crisis communications and reputation management, with the ability to develop and implement effective strategies to mitigate risk.

  • Leadership skills to mentor and develop team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their roles.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to assist in positioning the college as a leading thought leader and implementing ranking strategies.

  • Experience in negotiating contracts, optimizing media placements, and tracking performance metrics for media buying activities.

  • Familiarity with video and photography support to provide multimedia content creation assistance as needed.

  • Knowledge of social listening tools to monitor conversations and trends across digital platforms.

  • Experience managing PR campaigns, media buying activities, and multimedia content creation within an academic or similar environment.

  • Proficiency in media monitoring and measurement tools, with a demonstrated ability to analyze data and derive actionable insights.

  • Previous leadership experience, including mentoring and developing team members, preferably in a PR or media-related role.

The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration is AACSB accredited and houses the School of Accounting that holds separate AACSB accreditation. The college offers the BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information technology, management, marketing, and supply chain management. Several formats of the MBA program are offered in fulltime, weekend, and online modalities in Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Houston, and San Antonio.
