Description

This is work providing practical nursing services to patients under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, licensed osteopathic physician, licensed podiatrist, or a licensed dentist.

Administers medications and treatment as ordered. Check medications for accuracy when returned from Pharmacy, following established policy/procedure. Administer treatments such as, but not limited to sterile dressings, enemas, irrigations, cauterizations. Take vital signs, weights, perform breast exams, evaluate patient/clients, and assist staff in the care of clients.

Evaluate complaints of residents, evaluate acutely ill or injured patients, notify the RN or physician as appropriate. Notate physician orders and follow through when required regarding any treatments, medications, diagnostic procedures request, diets, lab, x-ray, infection reported, etc. Document all evaluations of resident complaints in accordance with policy and procedure. Complete all nursing notes, nursing Active Treatment Plans, Support Plans, and summaries as required. Monitor ordered lab for completion, enter lab orders in the scheduling system as required. Monitor required examinations and consults for scheduling and completion using the electronic scheduling system.

Check monthly updates for accuracy, prepare for provider signature. Check new monthly MAR against previous month for accuracy, ensure correction of any discrepancies.

Monitor charting compliance of direct care staff and report deficiencies to immediate supervisor or designee regarding BM’s, menstrual cycles fluid intake, seizure activity and other special problems, etc.

Makes rounds with clinician when required. Make routine rounds on houses using nursing skills to check health status of patients, precautions for safety measures of patients such as side rails, chairs, stretcher, and/or safety restraints. Accompany residents on trips off/outside of the center as scheduled. Keep medical supply cabinets and treatment rooms stocked, clean and orderly on a daily basis. Make weekly checks of medical supplies for expiration dates.

Attend Active Treatment Plan meetings, nurse’s meetings, in-services as scheduled.

Give and accept a thorough report at beginning/end of shift upon to ensure continuity of care upon assuming responsibility for work assignment.

Perform other relate duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.

Experience, education, and/or training used to meet the minimum qualifications and in response to the qualifying questions must be verifiable through information contained in your application.

This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035.

This position is critical to the safety and supervision of residents and may require the incumbent to work beyond their normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels in the facility.
