The Department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Remote Sr. Manager, Research Support. The Sr. Manager, Research Support leads the research program teams to ensure successful system implementation and upgrades. Specifically, the Sr. Manager, Research Support oversees the day-to-day operations and resources of research staff and supports programs for their growth and development.

  • Oversees the large, complex, and highly diversified research portfolio of the Division of Infectious Diseases, including proposal development and post-award management.

  • Directly supports high profile faculty in the Division of Infectious Diseases, including the Chief of Infectious Diseases, with sponsored research funding totaling $30M in clinical and non-clinical research.

  • Manages post-award for 25+ complex awards including multi-PI, multi-site, and multi-project grants with several sub-accounts and monthly to quarterly deliverables and invoicing.

  • Interacts with various federal, state, foundation, and industry sponsors.

  • Submits progress reports and prior approval requests, including reduction in efforts, changes in key personnel, changes in sub awardees, no-cost extensions, budget revisions, etc.

  • Monitors subawards by issuing contracts/amendments, reviewing invoices with PI for approval, requesting documentation, performing audits, etc.

  • Tracks the effort for all supported research faculty and staff, identifies possibly gaps in funding, and monitors effort certifications as required.

  • Prepares fiscal budget projections for research totaling at least $10M annually and meets regularly with division administrator and supported faculty.

  • Ensures regular meetings with Division Administrator and Principal Investigators and proactively develops and implements process improvements to facilitate the initiation and implementation of research project to guide faculty in conducting quality, efficient research at MSOM

  • Identifies issues and implements quality enhancement and operational efficiency initiatives in the conduct and oversight of research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrates leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects, work assignments, etc.

  • Proficient knowledge of Excel and MS Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Power BI)

  • High level of interpersonal skills is required

  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions

  • Ability to learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management

  • Ability to communicate both verbal and in writing with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to create verbal and written reports

  • Knowledge of sponsored (federal, state, or industry) rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activity
