Job Title Clinical Placement Coordinator

General Job Description

This is a professional position responsible for directing operational aspects such as clinical and preceptor facilities/contracts, student background and health checks, and clinical requirements. Responsible for representing multiple programs in the School of Nursing promoting compliance with student and faculty in clinical partnerships. Works under general supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director, School of Nursing.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Identifies, establishes, and maintains clinical relationships with area healthcare providers and the community for the purpose of further development and support of clinical affiliates.

  2. Coordinates with program coordinators and faculty to determine the numbers of student placements needed at each semester, level, and type of experience needed.

  3. Accurately evaluates all required documentation, background checks, and health records for students placed in clinical facilities.

  4. Oversees and maintains School of Nursing databases and preceptor files to ensure documents and licenses are up to date, as required by accrediting bodies.

  5. Prepares and submits annual and periodical reports and surveys related to clinical placements.

  6. Develops and maintains positive nursing relationships with clinical facilities.

  7. Oversees the assignment of preceptors for students in the School of Nursing.

  8. Confirms appropriate nursing level placements with nurse educators and facility contacts with timely follow up communication.

  9. Assists the program coordinators and faculty in identifying new clinical placements.

  10. Provides clinical facility information to students and faculty.

  11. Develops and implements policies related to clinical placement; directs process for submitting required reports to all affiliating clinical agencies.

  12. Attends scheduled meetings and affiliate events to represent the School of Nursing; works with contracts coordinator on campus to ensure affiliation agreements are in place for each clinical site.

  13. Conducts individual academic counseling/guidance sessions and small group sessions with prospective, new, and continuing students.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

  2. Knowledge of clinical requirements for each course and knowledge of clinical experience available in the hospital and clinical setting.

  3. Skill in the use of computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.

  4. Ability to work under pressure and meet clinical expectations effectively.

  5. Ability to direct and perform multiple tasks concurrently.

  6. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.

  7. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  8. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  9. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

Associate’s degree in nursing is required. Registered nurse licensed by the state of Texas is required.

Required Experience and Training

Two years of related experience is required. Experience in customer service is required.

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
