The Position
Professional Engineer Administrators are responsible for management of an assigned district, function or division in the Department of Transportation.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located in Carson City in the Traffic Operations Division. The Chief Traffic Operations Engineer is responsible for the administration of the Traffic Operations Division. Responsibilities include: managing and supervising the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system, the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) network & programs, and Signals, Lighting & ITS programs and staff; overseeing the development and implementation of statewide policy, operational guidance, and technical manuals associated with areas of responsibility; assisting in the development of contracts and agreements; directing and monitoring decisions regarding traffic and ITS devices, ITS network, and LMR systems; development and management of the Traffic Operations budget; and representing the division in meetings and committees with federal, state and local units of government at both the local and national level in all areas of traffic operations. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and five years progressively responsible professional engineering experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity; OR one year of experience as an Administrator I, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as a Manager I, P.E., or Manager II, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience.Special Notes
Any person registered as a Professional Engineer in another state must become registered as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months following the date of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.Special Requirements
