The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health seeks an experienced Data Analyst to conduct quantitative analyses for two NIH-funded projects. The first project is entitled Community- and school-level policing, School Discipline, and Student Health Outcomes: Identifying the Adolescent Health Consequences of Racialized Criminalization and Securitization in New York City Schools. This project involves psychiatric and substance use epidemiology with a specific focus on adolescent health and mass criminalization and incarceration. The second project is entitled Substance Use Treatment and County Incarceration (STACI). This project examines how community-level exposure to mass incarceration can contribute to county substance use disorder treatment needs and affect treatment availability, use, and outcomes. A candidate interested in areas of health related to these projects is preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and attention to detail. Experience with managing large data frames, multi-level and longitudinal data analysis, and data visualization is critical.

This position will work with the principal investigators and other investigators to:

  • Conduct data acquisition, processing/cleaning, and linkages
  • Perform quantitative multivariate analyses to fulfill research aims
  • Conduct latent variable analysis and linear modeling
  • Contribute (as a co-author) to reports, manuscripts, figures, tables, slides, and other presentation materials based on study findings
  • Contribute to new and ongoing grant proposals as needed

Individuals from groups historically underrepresented in health-related research are strongly encouraged to apply. The position also has the potential to work in a similar capacity on the principal investigator's other research projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree and 3 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

The candidate must have a master's degree or equivalent in training, education, and/or experience in the fields of statistics or biostatistics. Proficiency in R and experience working with quantitative data management and analysis are essential.

Work experience in psychiatric or substance use epidemiology is preferred. Experience with STATA and ArcGIS is preferred. Interest in adolescent mental health, substance use treatment across the life course, and mass criminalization and incarceration is preferred.
