The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director in the Office of the Vice Dean for Research (VDR), the Manager, Behavioral Research Lab is responsible for helping execute research initiatives for Columbia Business School. This individual will manage the daily operations of the Behavioral Research Lab, provide support for grants, maintain the research website, and help support PhD pipeline programs.

The Manager will enforce adherence to IRB procedures, manage IRB protocols, supervise lab personnel, oversee lab equipment maintenance, and updating the lab's website. Collaboration with the School's Information Technology Group is essentially particularly regarding the computational requirements of research projects. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational and communication skills, the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, and familiarity with psychology lab settings.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages the operations of the Behavioral Research Lab, a large, centralized human-subjects laboratory that works to facilitate scholarly research conducted within the Business School.
  • Manage the Behavioral Research Lab, ensuring adherence to IRB procedures and protocols, and supervising lab personnel.
  • Monitor budgets, oversee the lab's annual report, lead advisory board meetings, and host events to enhance the lab's visibility.
  • Ensure compliance with university research policies, liaise with the IRB, manage participant crisis documentation, and maintain faculty research databases.
  • Implement a research communications plan, produce content for dissemination, and collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop the faculty's research presence.
  • Collaborate with research institutions and provide faculty with access to resources and support.
  • Maintain the School's research website, ensuring resources are accessible to faculty.
  • Assess and match Research Assistants to faculty projects, facilitating research support.
  • Communicate internal and external grant opportunities in collaboration with the Executive Director and Financial Planning Office.
  • Participate in special projects and team collaborations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a quantitative field and/or its equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience required.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and a detail orientation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and under pressure, managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects with changing deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism needed.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and the ability to exercise discretion and judgment in matters that are sensitive and confidential is required. Knowledge of databases.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred; NSF Grants experience a plus. Experience working with research subjects and IRB protocols preferred.
  • Advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Data science background strongly preferred.
