The Research Associate is affiliated with the Skills for the Future and Business Excellence group in ETS Research. The role entails assisting in and contributing to research projects in K12 education.

The Research Associate provides independent technical support to research projects with minimal guidance from senior staff, supports the coordination and execution of the scope of work of research projects, participates in coordinating staff efforts across multiple roles (e.g., research assistants, scientists, data analysts, engineers, program administrators, directors, etc.), and contributes as co-author to presentations or publications.

Project Management

  • Coordinate all phases of research projects (e.g., recruitment, IRB application, data collection, coding or analysis) and monitor project workflow.

  • Coordinate work with other ETS departments, project staff, and vendors.

  • Develop and/or monitor project budgets and workplans for discrete phases of projects.

  • Monitor and oversee interactions with research sites and subjects.

  • Responsible for project documentation (e.g., minutes, materials).

Functional/Technical

  • Independently perform complex and connected research tasks in collaboration with senior staff or scientists

  • Conduct and synthesize literature review with guidance from scientists

  • Develop coding schema and data analysis plans.

  • Conduct data analysis, synthesize and interpret results, and design and prepare charts, tables, figures and graphics for reports and presentations.

  • Support development of presentation decks and research reports.

Communication

  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders both orally and in writing using language and terminology relevant to the specific discipline and/or research methodology, and appropriate for the intended stakeholders.

  • Contribute to and/or revise proposals, manuscripts, and presentations (e.g., conducting literature searches; describing methodology, instruments or data analysis) with minimal guidance from senior staff.

  • Draft internal and external written communications (e.g., school recruitment materials, advisory board communications) and documents (e.g., IRB proposals, internal memos and policies).

  • Respond to inquiries from internal (e.g., senior staff) and external stakeholders (e.g., research participants, vendors, external collaborators)

Leadership

  • Coach and motivate junior staff in a fair and consistent manner to achieve goals, providing specific feedback.

  • Lead a project team to successful completion of discrete phases of a research project, with guidance from senior staff.

  • A Master's in education or related disciplines such as cognitive science, statistics is required.

  • Training in STEM education is preferred

  • A minimum of 4 years of research management experience or a combination of research experience and demonstrated knowledge in educational measurement or assessment are required.
