Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer - Azure Kubernetes Networking in Redmond, Washington

The Azure Kubernetes Service (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/kubernetes-service/) team is creating a world-class container management and orchestration services for the cloud and beyond. We are the team working on container solutions for Azure on both Linux and Windows.

Our charter is to define the next generation of cloud-native infrastructure on Azure. We are looking for Software Engineer - Azure Kubernetes Networking who is excited about containers, and container orchestration with Kubernetes, who also has a passion for building DevOps tools that make it easier for people to build, deploy and scale their software on the Azure cloud. Our team members are in locations of multiple countries and continents.

As a Senior Software Engineer - Azure Kubernetes Networking on the AKS container netrworking team, you'll be integrating ebpf instrumentation into customers Kubernetes clusters for best in class observability. This opportunity will help you both learn with open source technology and experience real customer Kubernetes workloads. Help us make Azure Kubernetes Service's network simple, scalable and powerful using open source components blended with our hyperscale cloud. Team is mostly remote but your manager still holds down office space for those who want it.

Responsibilities

  • Owning the application and customer experience of debugging tools for customer cluster.

  • Increasing the release cadence of Kubernetes network addons. (Cilium, Calico, Azure CNI and internals)

  • Investigate increases in scale and speed to readiness for network components

  • Program in Golang to improve tools and integrate them with our service.

  • Work with ingress/egress and service mesh (istio) team to ensure a frictionless customer experience.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, golang, bash, or other backend programming languages

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, golang, bash, or other backend programming languages.

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, golang, bash, or other backend programming languages.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestrators, linux or windows networking, ebpf, cilium, and golang are all greatly preferred but not required.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
