University of Rochester Digital Media Producer II in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Senior Digital Media Producer, URMC Marketing, the Digital Media Producer II assists with the development, production, direction, shooting, and editing of strategic, engaging, informative video stories for the marketing, content, social media, web, and media relations teams at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).

The position supports a digital-first strategic communications plan for the URMC with effective video communications and expertise in the latest video technologies and techniques, including best practices for major social channels.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes creatively: Meets regularly with colleagues from across the institution to plan and produce engaging videos that enhance the UR Medicine/URMC brand/reputation, many of which will run on social platforms; supports various service lines; and promotes faculty, staff, physicians and/or researchers.

  • Production: Meets regularly with the Senior Digital Media Producer to review existing projects and discuss new, incoming projects. Receives assignments from senior team member(s) and plans and produces projects, from initial concept through final production. Uses a variety of platforms, including but not limited to, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, and emerging web and social channels. Works with digital asset management software to upload and archive ongoing and completed projects.

  • Assists the Senior Digital Media Producer in producing, editing, and archiving videos. Helps develop project concepts and/or themes, and record press conferences. Supports project development, including storyboarding, prototyping, and scriptwriting.

  • Collaborates with colleagues and clients to determine needs and produce video content to solve a communications directive. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: editing; creating on-screen graphics; adding closed captioning; handling/transferring digital media; storing/archiving digital assets; moving equipment; setting up lighting, cameras, and audio recording equipment; running cameras; helping direct talent.

  • Channel and Content Management: Uses video strategically and effectively across a variety of platforms. Examples include but are not limited to Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, and emerging web and social channels. Assists with the development and management of visual digital assets and templates, as well as a video archive with the appropriate level of metadata necessary to make it searchable. Provides support as needed to locate assets.

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and consults on best practices, making recommendations as appropriate. Supports creative ideation. Mentors colleagues in URMC Communications to develop basic video production and editing skills. Engages with other video producers to coordinate and collaborate on projects. Packages and provides content for use by external media outlets, and coordinates with outside producers on technical needs for video support, as needed.

  • Optimizes video content for accessibility, reporting, and current UR Medicine/URMC branding. Tracks analytics and reports in order to improve content performance. Monitors best practices in the field and incorporates them into URMC practice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • 2 years of professional experience in communications, film/video production, video journalism, higher education, or a similar field required.

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 5 years of professional experience in communications, film/video production, video journalism, higher education, or a similar field preferred.

  • Experience with advanced multimedia storytelling techniques on multiple platforms and high command of video techniques through sophisticated craftsmanship required.

  • Exceptional core video-storytelling skills, including a deep understanding of composition, sound, camera, lights, computers, and software necessary to produce visual and audio journalism required.

  • Studio and location filming experience, with a strong emphasis on lighting and audio capture skills preferred.

  • Competency in videography principles—from scripting through final editing—and an ability to show proficiency with branding guidelines required.

  • Strong combination of technical, creative, and problem-solving skills related to the practice of video content creation and marketing required.

  • Knowledge of video’s role as part of a comprehensive content strategy, including search engine optimization, social media, and video content marketing preferred.

  • Ability to manage many projects at different stages of production with a high degree of confidence; excellent organizational skills required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients preferred.

  • Knowledge of the higher education or medical center environment required.

  • Ability to work individually and contribute as a creative team member preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with motion graphics required.

  • Ability to travel between locations and transport equipment required.
