WORK SCHEDULE - 100% FTE; 40 HOURS PER WEEK - DAY SHIFT

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS The Spec Mammography Imaging Technologist performs screening mammography and both routine and complex diagnostic imaging accurately, independently, and efficiently. This includes advanced or complex exams and breast ultrasound. Also assists the radiologist with Ultrasound biopsies and Mammography and Ultrasound Guided localization procedures. Follows all outlined safety protocols while ensuring patient comfort and confidentiality. Competent in the use of all relevant computer systems.

Our board-certified radiologists have specialty training in cardiac imaging, neuroimaging, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and body and breast imaging. Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin.

  • Radiology Services at UW Medical Center - Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES EQUIPMENT:Understands, is able to independently operate, and practices proper use of mammographyand Ultrasound equipmentAble to troubleshoot minor problems with mammography and US equipmentReports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or appropriate servicePractices proper aseptic techniques following use of all equipmentChooses appropriate patient from work list or enters required patient information tomaintain accurate permanent record of test resultsEvaluates new prototype equipment and maintains confidentiality of proprietaryinformationIT/COMPUTER SYSTEMS/IMAGE MANAGEMENT:Schedules, begins, completes, and cancels exams in EPIC as indicatedKnowledge of EPIC and PACS to perform daily dutiesValidates all images sent to PACS prior to completing exam in EPICReconciles any unspecified images in PACS and manages exceptions in EPICDocuments any QA issues or protocol changes into the appropriate notes section in EPICAble to merge exams in PACSDemonstrates knowledge in EPICEnsure that all exams are coded properlyIMAGING/PATIENT CARE:Uses double patient identification to verify patient prior to examExamines all orders for accuracy and follows departmental protocolsSets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready.Explains study to the patient, appropriately questions patient for exam to be performed,instructs, and assists patients in proper positioning for the examinationSelects equipment and settings to optimize the image for diagnostic purposes as describedby UWMC protocolExercises independent judgment and is able to tailor examination relative to patientsclinical presentation and pathophysiological stateAppropriately monitors and communicates with the patient during exam and is able toassess patient pain and notify proper personnel for intervention if necessaryPractices proper room set-up and clean-up for all proceduresEvaluates images for technical quality and accurate positioningProvides Radiologists with the requested information for each exam; assists Radiologistswith problem-solvingIndependently performs and evaluate both clinical and research examinationsCompletes all examinations assigned in an efficient and timely manner without reductionin exam qualityInventories supplies and linens. Restocks rooms as needed. Cleans and tidies examrooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc.Performs work accurately and quickly even during peak workloads and maintains anacceptable volume of examinations as described by department policies REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS - Satisfactory completion of formal technology training in an AMA approved school, registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)OR equivalent education/experience.- Registered by ARRT as a Mammography Technologist ABOUT UW MEDICAL CENTER-NORTHWEST UW Medical Center is an acute care hospital located in Seattle with two campuses: Montlake and Northwest.
