Amazon Associate Corporate Counsel in Sydney, Australia

We are looking for a talented attorney to join our legal team based in Sydney, Australia to support our rapidly growing and evolving business.

Key job responsibilities

Responsibilities will include supporting strategic projects and agreements, as well as new and mature technology-driven offerings, counselling business and product development teams on a wide range of matters, and working with other members of the legal department locally and international to ensure that relevant legal and regulatory requirements and risks are understood and managed. You will also provide day-to-day advice to business teams, analyse and resolve issues that arise and handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.

Principal duties include providing ongoing legal advice on a wide range of legal areas, including in relation to competition & consumer law and other regulatory requirements.

A day in the life

You must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, is also essential.

You will be expected to work independently while also contributing successfully to cross-functional teams. You will work in a fast-paced environment that is constantly changing, and will need great judgment in ambiguous situations, a sense of humor and a desire to learn and be curious.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Sydney, NSW, AUS

Basic Qualifications

• Law degree and admitted to practice in Australia, or another common law jurisdiction: candidates admitted in other jurisdictions with sound knowledge of relevant Australian laws may be considered.

• 3 to 6 years of post-admission legal experience, with at least 2 years gained in a leading law firm. More experienced candidates are welcome to apply.

• Solid drafting and negotiation experience

• Experience in technology and commercial transactions or businesses

• Strong understanding of Competition and Consumer Law

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of legal issues relevant to technology businesses such as intellectual property and privacy.

• Experience advising on regulations, and working with regulators, preferably in Australia

• Experience working in-house, preferably at a multi-national or in a retail or technology business

• Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders at once, and follow through and meet deadlines
