Salary: $50,000 - $60,000, depending on qualifications

Job Summary

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) in Syracuse invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to work with Dr. Therasme's team on an LCA tool development project for wood products. This tool will integrate temporal and spatial differentiation of forest biomass and carbon sequestration, transportation, and further processing into final products. The successful applicant will engage with and contribute to the Climate and Applied Forest Research Institute (CAFRI, https://www.esf.edu/cafri-ny/) effort in developing tools to support data-driven, practical, efficient, and sustainable decisions about climate solutions.

Primary Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead research activities on the GHG emissions and carbon sequestration of wood products,

  • Develop LCA tools,

  • Collect and analyze data,

  • Write progress reports and manuscripts for publication,

  • Interact with personnel at state organizations such as NYSERDA, NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, NYS Agriculture and Markets, Wood Products Council,

  • Interact with stakeholders from the wood products industry and other organizations such as CORRIM,

  • Present research findings to colleagues, policymakers, and the public,

  • Work collaboratively with faculty from a range of different fields and perspectives,

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph. D in Natural Resources Management, Wood Products, Engineering, Sustainable Energy, or any related fields,

  • Strong analytical skills,

  • Strong track record of publication of peer-reviewed literature,

  • Strong written and oral communication skills,

  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • A strong commitment to working with diverse individuals and communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with life cycle assessment of biobased products and geospatial modeling,

  • Experience working with GIS, Python, and other LCA software,

  • Knowledge of database and application development,

  • Knowledge of the wood product industry,
