Amazon Corporate Counsel in Tokyo, Japan

Amazon is seeking an Corporate Counsel to support our rapidly growing and evolving payments matters based in Amazon Japan’s headquarters in Meguro, Tokyo. The role will report to our Senior Corporate Counsel covering payments, corporate, real estate and employment.

This is an exciting role at the cutting edge of our payments business. In this role, you will work directly with the business, providing day-to-day advice, negotiating a wide variety of transactions, helping launch innovative new products, and resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships. Additional duties include working on payment regulatory compliance matters, and providing trainings to the business. You will work with the company’s cross-functional teams in Seattle, Tokyo, and elsewhere.

The role consistently requires sound judgment in correspondence with both internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, even in ambiguous situations. The successful candidate must be inquisitive, detail-oriented, customer-obsessed, and enthusiastic about simplification.

Compensation is based on experience and includes equity. Some travel, domestic and international, may be required.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Tokyo, 13, JPN

Basic Qualifications

· Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and/or law school.

· Licensed to practice law in Japan and/or the US, UK, or other common law jurisdiction.

· At least 5 years of significant post-qualification attorney experience at a top national or international law firm or the law department of a global company.

· Ability to work well with people at all levels inside and outside Amazon.

· Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

· Strong written and oral communication skills in both Japanese and English.

Preferred Qualifications

· In-house legal experience in the payment industry is a strong plus.
