The opportunity

Manulife Investment Management’s GWAM Asia Operations team covers all aspects of Wealth and Investment operations along with transformation initiatives to optimize and bring efficiencies. We support multiple lines of business within the Investment Division including Retail Wealth and Distribution, Products, Compliance, Portfolio Managers and Trading desks. We work closely with our Asset Management business leaders and Information Technology partners (Quality Assurance, Development, Solution and Business Architects) to ensure we deliver solutions that truly meet our business needs.

We are looking for a methodical and results-driven business analyst to help be a key member of our transformation journey. As a business analyst, you will be responsible for obtaining, analyzing, and documenting business requirements across multiple work streams under the Operations department. We are looking for an individual with solid attention to detail, proactive, curious, analytical and has a good understanding of both Wealth and Investment Operations to document both operational and technical requirements.

As a business analyst, you will be exposed to a variety of differing challenges across multiple projects. The successful candidate will interact with business stakeholders, SMEs, IT developers and Product Owners to understand their challenges, work in collaboration with initiative team members to develop and deliver innovative solutions and take part in ongoing process/solution improvements. This is a role based in Hong Kong.

Role Responsibilities

Working in partnership with our BAU teams of Wealth (Transfer Agency, Dealing, AML/KYC support), Investment Operations (Middle office, Back office), Compliance & Technology teams to:

  • Analyze business needs and problems to develop technology requirements and solutions to address needs of the business.

  • Participate in client and project meetings to understand the requirements, propose solutions, discover, and diagnose issues, and encourage stakeholder engagement.

  • Assist with system implementation work including:

  • Impact analysis of implementations at macro and micro levels.

  • Prepare business requirements documentation.

  • Systems Integration, E2E testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

  • Work effectively and collaboratively with all project teams, carefully managing expectations of internal stakeholders.

  • Act as a bridge between business stakeholders and developers to ensure correct technical requirements are documented.

  • Assist with Project Manager activities as required.

  • Exposed to Agile Project Methodology execution.

  • Drive as Product Owner.

  • Project Plan.

  • Resource Plan.

  • Execute user stories, oversee and implement deliverables.

  • Assist with implementing transformational initiatives, business process change, process enhancements across the Asia region as well as across multiple business lines of retail wealth & distribution and investments.

  • Assist with workflow analysis, business requirements and business impacts for transformations in Front Office, Middle and Back Office.

  • Facilitate interdependencies across program streams.

  • Coordinate activities with leads in North America, Europe across the larger programs, strategic initiatives, and governance activities (MIS/KPIs/KRIs).

  • Manage issues, risks and book of work for Operations.

The position reports to Head of Retail Operations.

Job Requirements

  • Preferred: Undergraduate degree holder (Bachelors) in Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, or equivalent.

  • 10+ years as Business Analyst (‘BA’) or BA adjacent role within Investment or Transfer agency operations.

  • Strong understanding and exposure of Transfer Agency Operations and Investment Operations.

  • Proven detail oriented with strong analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills.

  • Ability to build stakeholder relationships.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet assigned deadlines.

  • Ability to formulate work plans, and identify/raise key risks, issues, and dependencies.

  • Proactive with a positive “can do" attitude.

  • Exposure to JIRA and Confluence software.

  • Proficient at Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Solid at both waterfall and agile methodologies.

  • Proven excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong business analysis skills to elicit, document and communicate technical requirements.

  • Good problem probing & listening skills.

  • Has a systematic approach to frame questions and consolidate views in a structured way.

  • Ability to prioritize and set expectations.

  • Good sense of business workflow and exception handling.

  • Hands on Project Management experience would be a plus.

  • Experience working in a large transformation program would be a plus.

  • Experience performing complex stakeholder management would be a plus.

  • Good at summarizing and presenting complex processes when presenting to Senior Management or Executives.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Communication skills in Cantonese and Mandarin would be a plus.
